The North America Office of Duesseldorf Tourism and Duesseldorf Airport announce:

25th “düsseldorf festival!” — September 9-27, 2015

Three weeks of boundary-pushing, large-scale dance and music theatre and nouveaux circus begin in Düsseldorf when “düsseldorf festival” returns this fall with more than 60 performances and 500 artists from all over the world, who only have one thing in common — the desire to transport audiences into fantastic worlds. Even after 25 years, the festival remains fresh and unpredictable because it keeps delivering the best unexpected and magical performance pieces.

Düsseldorf, Germany – Düsseldorf is getting ready for the 25th “düsseldorf festival” and its 25,000 visitors, who come to see things they have never seen before on a stage and to experience a city filled with the magic of transcendent art. The festival’s mission is to offer a showcase the most innovative artists and most beautiful examples of what is possible in acrobatics, music and dance theatre.

500 artists from all over the world will join the festival and present more than 60 shows with everything from wild to wondrous.   The festival takes place in venues all over the city, and its main stage is a large circus tent in the center of Düsseldorf, the historic Old Town.  “düsseldorf festival” has grown from a local artist showcase into a far-reaching international performance art event.  At the same time, it wants to give its international audience a sense of where they are by including local artists in the program.

Highlights include:

“Cuisine & Confession” by Les 7 Doigts de la Main.  The nouveaux cirque act by these genre stars from Canada takes place in a gigantic kitchen in which an artistic and culinary fireworks develops and proves the group’s motto: “life happens in the kitchen.”

Jaminbai. A young band from Korea that combines traditional Asian sounds with psychedelic heavy-metal punk and creates something brand new out of the juxtaposition.

“Gospel Journey” by Faada Freedy.  Also known as the Senegalese HipHop Dandy, this acapella master and his five-member band take off into spiritual heights on the wings of gospel mixed with soul, folk, and reggae.

“Il n’est pas encore minuit…” by Compagnie XY.  A circus-ey dance spectacle with 22 acrobats from France.

Sebastien Ramirez and Honji Wang. Dance scene shooting stars who turn a HipHop vocabulary into a graceful flow and dance.

“Il Ritorno” by Circa.  The Australian ensemble reinvents the Monteverdi’s baroque opera about Odysseus’s homecoming by turning it into a dance piece around Primo Levi’s return to his home in Italy after being in Auschwitz.
