On September 28, 2014, The First Brass of Sarasota, along with Ann Stephenson-Moe and the Church of the Redeemer choir, will present “Heroic Brass – Thriving” at Church of the Redeemer, 222 S. Palm Ave, Sarasota, FL at 5:15 p.m. “This concert captures the resilience of the American people overcoming the terrorism inflicted upon the United States on 9/11” says First Brass co-founder Gary Reinstrom.

“The First Brass with Annie’s organ and Redeemer’s choir will blow you away” says lead trumpet Chris Chiodo.  Repertoire for the concert includes John Williams’ “Indiana Jones” and “Superman”; “Fanfare for the Common Man” by Aaron Copland; Gustav Holst’s theme from “Jupiter” as well as the Florida premier of Rick Nichols’ “Give Him Glory”.

In addition, 20 year old, trumpet sensation and winner of the Colombia National Trumpet Competition, Federico Montes, will be the soloist on Summon the Hero’s, a tribute to our first responders.

This year’s season is dedicated to the memory of two beloved music directors.  Andy Wright, Sarasota High School chorus and jazz band and Jack Crew, Riverview High School band director.  Both were a huge influence to many young musicians throughout the years.  Several of the players in The First Brass ensembles studied under them.  Through music, their legacy continues.

The First Brass is this regions only professional brass ensemble.  The group consists of six trumpets, three trombones, euphonium, four French horns, two tubas, percussion and keyboard.  Entering their third season, The First Brass was born at First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota playing sacred music.  It has since added brass arrangements of classical, popular and Dixieland music.  “Sixteen brass with percussion and pipe organ will make your hair stand up and knock your socks off” says artistic director and founder Gary Reinstrom.  “We can also play pianissimo when we have a vocalist.  It’s the emotions that the brass is able to exude that make our concerts fun and exciting!”

The First Brass will collaborate with others this coming season, such as The Jacobites, Musica Sacra Cantorum, Sharon Scott, Bill Schustik, Sara Peebles-McNatt and Carlann Evans.

The performances will be at venues in Englewood, Venice, Sarasota and Bradenton.  Ticket prices are $15-$30 with student and military discounts.  For information, call (941) 928-0296 or visit
