Based On Best-Selling Books By Dav Pilkey, Film Will Be In Theatres June 2

On June 2, Virgin/Deep Well Records will release the original motion picture soundtrack for the DreamWorks Animation global media event, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. Based on Dav Pilkey’s bestselling series – which has sold upwards of 70 million books – the raucously subversive comedy boasts an A-list cast of comedy superstars headed by Kevin Hart and Ed Helms. It tells the story of two overly imaginative pranksters named George and Harold, who hypnotize their school’s principal into thinking he’s a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants.
The soundtrack pre-order is underway HERE. Anyone who pre-orders the digital edition will instantly receive two tracks written and recorded exclusively for the film – “Captain Underpants Theme Song” by “Weird Al” Yankovic and “A Friend Like You” by Andy Grammer. The official video for “Captain Underpants Theme Song” was released today and can be seen HERE.
The 11-track collection features two versions of the infectious “Saturday” – one by Cold War Kids’ Nathan Willett, who wrote the track, and a second by cast members Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch. Other highlights include Adam Lambert’s take on Aretha Franklin’s “Think” and Lil Yachty’s version of Yello’s iconic “Oh Yeah,” a song that audiences will remember from the 1986 comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It also includes several selections from Theodore Shapiro’s score.

Adam Anders served as the film’s Executive Song Producer and the Soundtrack Album Producer, personally co-writing three original songs including the theme song with “Weird Al.” Anders and his frequent collaborator, Peer Astrom, produced the soundtrack. The pair’s previous television and film credits include “Glee,” “Rock of Ages,” “The Passion” and ABC’s “Dirty Dancing.”
In theaters on June 2, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie was directed
by David Soren, produced by Mireille Soria and Mark Swift, and stars Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Nick Kroll, Thomas Middleditch, Jordan Peele and Kristen Schaal.
