Los Angeles – Oct. 15, 2015 – Slap on a pair of spurs and a ten-gallon hat and settle in for the “24 Hours of Westerns” Marathon, as HDNET MOVIES gathers up a posse of cowboy classics on Sunday, Nov. 29, starting at 6aE. The showdown begins with a trio of adventures starring beloved leading man James Garner, kicking off with Garner as legendary lawman Wyatt Earp, teaming up with old friend Doc Holliday (Jason Robards) to take down the villainous Clanton Gang in HOUR OF THE GUN at 6aE and 6pE. The 1969 romp SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF follows at 7:45aE, starring Garner as an expert marksman tasked with taming a wild boomtown. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF also stars Harry Morgan and Bruce Dern, and will re-air at 7:45pE. And Garner plays both sides of a small town rivalry to find a mother lode of buried gold in the Spaghetti Western spoof SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL GUNFIGHTER, with Suzanne Pleshette, Jack Elam, Harry Morgan, and Joan Blondell, at 9:20aE and 9:20pE.
Next, Gary Grimes stars in the 1972 gun-slinging epic THE CULPEPPER CATTLE CO. at 10:55aE, as a naive farm boy with dreams of being a cowboy. After begging to join a cattle drive led by no-nonsense boss Billy Green Bush, the boy’s idealistic fantasies are quickly shattered by an onslaught of crime and unflinching violence, forcing him to grow up quickly or be left behind to fend for himself in the harsh wilds of the desert. THE CULPEPPER CATTLE CO. will air again at 11pE.
The marathon continues with a two-pack of favorites starring Western icon John Wayne, as a prospector who falls in love with a beautiful young woman meant for his partner, Stewart Granger, in the 1960 Old West comedy NORTH TO ALASKA, at 12:30pE and 12:35aE. And Wayne’s trademark surly marshal tries to earn back his badge by helping Katharine Hepburn track down her father’s killer in the 1975 TRUE GRIT sequel ROOSTER COGBURN, at 2:35pE and 2:40aE.
Then, ride off into the sunset with genre hero Clint Eastwood, in the 1972 Revisionist Western JOE KIDD, penned by celebrated author and screenwriter Elmore Leonard, at 4:30pE. The film follows Eastwood’s titular ex-bounty hunter, serving time in jail for disturbing Indian land. When wealthy landowner Robert Duvall asks him to join a village posse headed south of the border to capture a dangerous bandito (John Saxon), he reluctantly agrees, stopping at nothing to bring the wanted criminal to justice. JOE KIDD will re-air at 4:30aE.
