Realize Bradenton and the Manatee Millennial Movement (M3) Present

“Books, Bots and Bites”

November 14, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Central Library, Bradenton

Area Millennials and their children are invited to build bots of out bites and boxes, create a bot outfit, snap a pic, get a free book and join the bot parade at this robot takeover of Bradenton’s Central Library.

BRADENTON, FL— The robots are coming! The self-driving cars, mechanical maids and cyber-dogs of the Jetsons are getting closer all the time. Don’t worry—the future can be fun. As part of its “PopUps for a Purpose” series, Realize Bradenton has partnered with Manatee County’s Manatee Millennial Movement (M3) to create a robot-themed event geared toward area Millennials and their children. “Books, Bots and Bites” offers a fun-filled and edifying introduction to these evolving and innovative creations of the not-so-distant future.

It all happens Saturday, November 14, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Central Library, 1301 Barcarrota Boulevard West, in downtown Bradenton. Participants are invited to come in robot costume or create one at a bot-builder-station, join the bot parade and grab some delicious robot-themed bites. The library will also offer a scavenger hunt, story time, and free book giveaway by the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County. The event is free and open to the public. Why reach out to Millennials?

“Three out of every four new parents in Manatee County are Millennials” says Ogden Clark of Manatee County’s M3 team. “Reaching out to them is a matter of good timing.” Clark notes that the Millennial generation (whose birthdays span the early 1980s through the late 1990s) are now growing up and having families of their own. “While we focus on Millennials, everyone is welcome,” he adds. “It’s going to be an engaging event for people of all ages.”

Clark adds that supporting partners include the Manatee County Public library system, the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County, Keeton’s Office and Art Supply and Sugar Cubed.
PopUps for a Purpose is a Realize Bradenton production, funded by the Knight Foundation through the Knight Cities Challenge that’s designed to create vibrancy among Millennials in innovative ways. Nine popup events, from October 2015 through May 2016, will temporarily transform outdoor spaces into event venues designed to spark dialogue and imagination. Events like Plaza Cubana in the South Florida Museum courtyard and Books, Bots, & Bites at the Central Library aim to accelerate local community engagement among the nation’s most diverse generation. Follow #RBPopUps on Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat to stay connected.
