Hello Sarasota!
I am inviting you all to meet Dawnyelle Singleton. She is running for School Board, Sarasota County, District 1. She is challenging the incumbent Bridget Ziegler.
Dawnyelle Singleton, a Sarasota native (how unusual!), has an educational background as a former school administrator and she currently works for a local nonprofit agency that focuses on early childhood, parenting education, and mental health services for children and families.
I know Dawnyelle has the experience to be supportive of students, parents, teachers, school librarians, and our community. She shows up and gets things done.
Here’s a link to her website.
If any of you have watched some of the School Board meetings during Mrs. Ziegler’s tenure, you’d be as upset as I am. While I don’t have any children, I care about them, and I know Ms. Singleton will protect education with grace and intelligence.
It is time to roll up our sleeves and help change the direction of Sarasota’s future. Whether it is by signing a petition for her to get on the ballot or by giving to Dawnyelle’s campaign, she is going to need all the help she can get from our community to win this seat.
When a candidate is up against a candidate who only thrives from Dark Pac funds that get funneled into her campaign at almost the end of the election cycle (let’s say a month before voting day), it is very difficult to win. I believe political school board history will repeat itself with Mrs. Ziegler and she will have large amounts of campaign funding arriving in the fall.
With that, won’t you please help me get Dawnyelle Singleton elected to our school board? If elected, she would be the first African American to serve on the Sarasota school board. How cool is that and isn’t it about time? I think so! Geesh!
Now is not the time to shy away, we must lean in, for ourselves, our children, and Sarasota’s future.
Please RSVP if you plan on attending. Upon receipt of your RSVP, I will email you the Zoom Video meeting information.
Thank you!
Adrien Lucas
