“LACES is an explosion of moody dance pop tinged with bitterness… Assuming the role of an unapologetic version of her former artist self, LACES takes on a darker, more confident form.” – Culture Collide

“LACES hits the sweet spot that lingers between the irreverent, celebratory electro of Ke$ha and the dramatically emotional pop of Tove Lo.” – LADYGUNN

(New York, NY) LACES, the moniker of Jessica Vaughn (nee Jessica Poland) has released a new live video for her latest single, “someday is not tonight.” The single marks Vaughn’s return to the spotlight as an artist.

Touring since the age of 19, Vaughn was originally catapulted to fame in 2008 when she released her debut album as Charlotte Sometimes, via Geffen Records. Entitled Waves and the Both of Us, the album gained traction on both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top Heatseekers charts. That year, she appeared at all dates on Warped Tour and her single, “How I Could Just Kill A Man,” was featured on the Warped Tour 2008 Compilation. After two subsequent EPs, Vaughn went on to appear on NBC’s The Voice, during which all four judges turned during the blind audition round, and she chose Blake Shelton as her coach. Vaughn released two additional EPs under the Charlotte Sometimes name before announcing in 2014 that she was retiring the pseudonym and re-inventing herself as LACES. “To me, it was like graduating,” she explains. “I’d been using the name Charlotte Sometimes since I was a teenager and I had simply outgrown what it represented to me. In order to become the woman I am, I had to shed my own skin.”

The first single released as LACES, “Love Me Sober,” premiered on Billboard.com in March 2015, and Buzzfeed featured it as one of “7 Sexy Singles from 7 Super Cool Chicks”. The eponymous EP was released that summer. In 2016, three singles were released in quick succession, “Freedom, “Screw Me” and “Somebody…” “Freedom” landed on numerous Spotify playlists and quickly accrued over 500k streams. Vaughn soon found herself in demand as a songwriter and featured vocalist. Her voice has been heard on The Vampire Diaries, Melrose Place, Station 19, The Ellen Show, World of Dance, Dancing With The Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and content for numerous Hasbro brands. Her music has been featured on Netflix, the Discovery Channel, ABC, NBC, Fuse, MTV, Vh1, the Sundance Channel, the CW, and A&E.

The highly anticipated single, “someday is not tonight” was released on October 5th and was featured on Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlists in both the US and Denmark. Of her decision to step back in front of the mic and the camera, Vaughn explains, “I know some fans are wondering why I’ve waited so long to release something new from my LACES project. The simple answer is – I didn’t have anything to say. This track felt important, though, and it also felt like the most honest representation of myself. It’s about acknowledging your faults and the tools you use to numb yourself throughout your adult life. Being ok with being uncomfortable and knowing that it’s ok not to be ok. I think I owe it to myself and my fans to share this conversation.” The live video goes along with that theme, showing listeners / viewers something that isn’t perfect or manufactured. “There’s something raw and sometimes even more beautiful when performing a song bare bones, heart exposed and flaws out. That’s how I started in music – just me and one instrument. I’ll always feel compelled to go back to the beginning to believe in my message.”

Looking towards the future, Vaughn shows no sign of slowing down. She’ll continue to lend her voice to various collaborations, including an upcoming single with Chris Ayer in early 2019. She will also continue to write for other projects and co-write with other artists. Be on the look-out for much more from Jessica Vaughn / LACES.
