The International Fine Print Dealers Association

Announces Plans for 2014 IFPDA Print Fair

New York:  The International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) has announced that ninety of its members will exhibit at the 23rd edition of  IFPDA Print Fair, which opens to the public for a four-day run on  November 6 at New York’s historic Park Avenue Armory.  With a wide spectrum of material spanning five centuries, The IFPDA Print Fair remains the largest art fair dedicated to a single medium and draws a dedicated international audience of curators, collectors, scholars, artists, and art enthusiasts.

“We are delighted to welcome our distinguished roster of exhibitors to the IFPDA Print Fair,” says Michele Senecal, executive director of The International Fine Print Dealers Association. “This year’s Fair weaves together the very best examples of printmaking by major artists, from the historic to the new, in a way that today’s art collectors will find highly appealing.”

According to Ms. Senecal, the Fair tops off the New York Fine Print Week, their annual celebration of prints that begins Monday, November 3 and features auction sales, exhibitions, gallery talks, openings, and many special events organized by museums and IFPDA member galleries throughout the city.

The Fair’s international character is buttressed this year with nearly a third of exhibitors (twenty-six) hailing from the United Kingdom or Europe. These include prominent dealers such as Alan Cristea Gallery, Osborne Samuel, and The Fine Art Society (London), Polígrafa Obra Gráfica (Barcelona), Paul Prouté S.A. (Paris), Galerie Sabine Knust (Munich), Helmut H. Rumbler (Frankfurt), Jorg Maass Kunsthandel (Berlin), Galerie Boisserée (Cologne) and August Laube (Zurich) in specialties ranging from old master prints to modern and contemporary. Despite the overflow of applications, the Fair also includes four dealers who will exhibit for the first time — Gerrish Fine Art (London), Stanza Del Borgo (Milan), Scholten Japanese Art (New York), and Bernard Jacobson Gallery (London) – as well as Pia Gallo, Catherine E. Burns and Keith Sheridan, who rejoin the Fair as exhibitors after a brief hiatus.

Among the fine art specialists returning to the fold from the U.S. are: Brooke Alexander, Pace Prints, David Tunick, Susan Sheehan Gallery, Senior & Shopmaker Gallery, Armstrong Fine Art, C.G. Boerner, Dolan/ Maxwell, and Hill-Stone.

As the Fair is a highly anticipated venue for the debut of new projects, a diverse hot-off-the-press offerings are expected from the Association’s exhibiting contemporary publishers. Paragon (London) has just published a new series of polymer-gravure block prints by Leda Catunda entitled Projeto Night Club. Neils Borch Jensen (Copenhagen) will offer new projects by Tacita Dean, Olafur Eliasson, Carsten Holler and Julie Mehretu. Universal Limited Art Editions (Bay Shore, NY) will showcase new editions by Jasper Johns, Christopher Wool and Jennie C. Jones. Flowers (London/New York) will exhibit prints by gallery artists Glen Baxter, Derek Boshier, Nicola Green, and Patrick Hughes. Carolina Nitsch (New York) has new projects in the works with Carrie Mae Weems and Tracey Emin.

The third recipient of the Richard Hamilton Acquisition Prize, sponsored by Champion & Partners, will be announced at the Opening Night Preview, on Wednesday, November 5, a benefit for its grants-making arm, the IFPDA Foundation.  The Prize was established in 2012 to support museum acquisitions and awards one institution up to $10,000 for the purchase of one or more prints from any period at the Fair.
