Roser Community Church Celebrates Music Sunday
and welcomes new Director of Music Ministries,
At 10:00 AM on Sunday, October 25 the Worship Service will begin with a majestic piano/organ duet by Kristen Stanten and Phyllis O’Keef playing “All Creatures of Our God and King”. Kristen Stanton is the new Director of Music Ministries at Roser Community Church and Phyllis O’Keef served as the Interim Director of Music Ministries during the hiring process. The Roser Chancel Choir will perform the Anthem “For the Music of Creation” and the Joyful Noise Children’s Choir will sing “Kum Ba Yah” with African percussion. The sermon by Rev. Dr. Bob O’Keef is taken from Mark 10: 46-52 and is titled “Your Faith Has Healed You”. Please join us for a reception in the Narthex following the 10:00 AM Worship Service and welcome Kristen and her husband, Scott, to the community and Roser Community Church.
Kristen Stanton comes from Newton, Iowa and attended Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. She received her M.A. in Music Education from Brigham Young University. Kristen’s main areas of expertise are vocal music education, church music, and piano instruction/performance. She has just completed her 33rd year of teaching music to various ages and abilities.
Kristen’s husband, Scott, retired this spring after 37 years of instrumental music instruction. The Stantons have taught collaboratively at the College of Eastern Utah in Price, Utah and founded a community music school there. They also spent 3 years teaching at a private boarding school, Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts.
Kristen has most recently served as the Artistic/Executive Director of the Iowa Youth Chorus, a community choir program for children and youth in Des Moines, Iowa. Throughout her career Kristen has served many congregations as choir director or organist, most recently as the Director of Music at Central Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. She is looking forward to devoting her full attention now to her passion for church music.
Kristen directs the Joyful Noise Children’s Choir that rehearses after school on Wednesdays. Choristers learn basic vocal technique, beginning sight-reading concepts, and performance skills while performing a wide variety of musical styles. There are no participation fees. Kristen sees this as the beginning of a Music Academy that she plans to develop in the future. She also plans to expand all Roser music programs for all ages which includes recruiting new members, vocal, instrumental and performance instruction, and create opportunities in various styles of music. She has already established an Acoustic Combo and Jazz Combo that occasionally perform and accompany the singing during Worship Services.
