Dayton, Ohio—Burlington’s Jake Yacinich went 3 for 3 with two runs batted in to lead the Bees to a 6-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Sunday afternoon. The Bees prevented the Dragons from a sweep of the three-game series before a crowd of 8,056 at Fifth Third Field. The loss snapped the Dragons three-game winning streak.

Burlington broke open a one-run game by scoring one run in the seventh and three more in the eighth to take a 6-1 lead. The Dragons scored once in the bottom of the eighth and loaded the bases with two outs but could not get the big hit.

Dayton finished with 12 hits in the game and had 13 at-bats with runners in scoring position, but they could score only twice against a combination of three Burlington pitchers.

The Dragons trailed 2-0 in the fourth when they were able to string together three consecutive singles by Gavin LaValley, Narciso Crook, and Garrett Boulware to load the bases with no one out. LaValley scored on Jonathan Reynoso’s fielder’s choice ground out, but the next two batters were unable to bring in a run as the Dragons trailed 2-1. They did not score again until the eighth, when they were facing a 6-1 deficit.

Dragons starting pitcher Jake Paulson (5-5) was effective but was charged with the loss. He worked six and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and three runs (two earned) with one walk and three strikeouts. Reliever Ty Sterner worked one inning, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks. Jake Ehret retired all four batters he faced, striking out three.

Luis Gonzalez led the Dayton offense, going 3 for 5. LaValley, Crook, and Boulware each had two hits. Shed Long had one hit to extend his hitting streak to eight straight games.

The Dragons (22-27 in the second half; 61-58 overall) do not play on Monday. They open their longest road trip of the season, a nine-game excursion, on Tuesday in South Bend, Indiana against the South Bend Cubs (25-24, 54-62). Junior Morillo (3-7, 6.75) will start for Dayton against South Bend’s Erick Leal (7-8, 4.47).

All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.

Notes: Paulson lowered his earned run average to 2.82 and reached the minimum number of innings to qualify for the ERA title, ranking seventh in the league. Four of the five Dragons starters rank in the top-10 including league-leader Tyler Mahle (2.45) along with Wyatt Strahan (2.72) and Tejay Antone (2.85).
