ZHU and Tinashe collaborate on the haunting new single “ONLY,” released today by Astralwerks. The searing interplay between the two distinctive vocalists fuels a song that spans the spectrum from loneliness to connection, quiet to frenzy, darkness to light. Written and produced by both ZHU and Tinashe, “ONLY” is available for download / streaming HERE.

Set against the backdrop of the global lockdown, the official music video for “ONLY” explores the connection between isolation and voyeurism, as viewers look in on ZHU and Tinashe, each alone in a downtown loft. The clip was directed by Jack Murgatroyd (Coldplay, Flume, ODESZA), who also helmed ZHU’s “Came For The Low” video. View “ONLY” HERE.

Director Jack Murgatroyd says, “The video nods to the current moment, that ubiquitous feeling of uncertainty and uneasiness. This was our creative approach to exploring those emotions, our abstract way of trying to tap into our feelings of isolation and redundancy.”

Coinciding with the release of “ONLY,” ZHU has launched a timely new line of merchandise that includes face masks, mask case, aloe hand sanitizer, t-shirts, hoodie, crop top, kimono, sunglasses with chain and case, hats, bandana, pillows and tote bag. Browse the collection HERE.

“ONLY” is ZHU’s first release since officially signing to Astralwerks earlier this year. It follows his late 2019 collaboration with partywithray, “Came For The Low,” which was released by the label. Watch for ZHU’s performance of “ONLY” at 8:30 pm PT tonight during EDC Las Vegas Virtual Rave-A-Thon. The three-night livestream event can be viewed on tv.insomniac.com. An exclusive t-shirt designed by ZHU for the event will be for sale during the livestream. All net proceeds from the exclusive t-shirt sales will go to CREW NATION, a global relief fund for live music crews. ZHU is the latest content creator for Luminosity Gaming, the world-class esports and digital media organization arm of Enthusiast Gaming. Last night, he streamed an exclusive online charity concert in collaboration with fellow Luminosity creator and recently crowned Twitch Streamer of the Year at this year’s Shorty Awards, Harley “MrFreshAsian” Campbell.

Since emerging from the underground in 2014, ZHU has brought a cinematic sense of world-building to his music. Born Steven Zhu and raised in the Bay Area, he began playing piano at a young age. After making his debut with “Moves Like Ms. Jackson”—a 2014 release that drew widespread attention despite ZHU’s deliberately concealing his identity—ZHU dropped his debut EP The Nightday and soon earned a GRAMMY® Award nomination for Best Dance Recording for his breakthrough single “Faded.” Arriving in 2016, his debut album Generationwhy found ZHU illuminating his emotional life to a greater degree, in part by adding more of his lithe vocal work to the album’s channeling of desert psychedelia. ZHU continued that sonic exploration on his sophomore album Ringos Desert, a 2018 effort featuring guests like TOKiMONSTA and Tame Impala.

As his profile has risen over the past few years, ZHU has passionately pursued his interest in fashion, playing an essential part in the design of his fashion-forward merch. With ambitions of including a runaway at upcoming live shows, ZHU aspires to shed light on the left-of-center sensibilities of the more daring corners of the electronic-music world in all aspects of his artistry.

A multi-Platinum-certified R&B disruptor, singer, writer and dancer, Tinashe also produces, mixes, engineers, creative directs, and edits. As a result, she blazes past any and all boundaries taking full control of her independence on her latest project, Song For You – a multi-track compilation featuring G-Eazy, 6lack, Ms. Banks, and more.

Co-mingling seductive R&B, edgy pop, and a nocturnal electronic sensibility, she emerged as a fascinating, focused, and fiery outlier in 2014 with her full-length debut Aquarius. Powered by the double Platinum smash “2 On” [feat. ScHoolboy Q], the album crashed the Top 20 of the Billboard Top 200 upon arrival before popping up on year-end lists by Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Cosmopolitan, Stereogum, The Guardian, Vulture, and more. Between touring alongside everyone from Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj to Maroon 5, she revved up the official mixtape Nightride. Rolling Stone and Fuse both proclaimed it among the “20 Best R&B Albums of 2016.”

She’s quietly become a muse for some of the world’s most influential tastemakers, appearing in a Ralph Lauren campaign with Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin and delivering an exclusive performance for Karl Lagerfeld. Other partnerships include Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, Juicy Couture, and M.A.C. Cosmetics.

Established in New York City and now finding its new home in the historic Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles, Astralwerks was the brainchild of staffers at Caroline Records who saw an opportunity for a label focused on the emerging electronic and ambient scene. Having reached a milestone of 25 years, Astralwerks has quickly become a modern, artist-first label with a true focus on nurturing talent across the electronic genre and beyond. Acting with a scalable, independent and global thinking mentality with the capability to tap into the resources of a major label, has allowed Astralwerks to retain and sign up-and-coming artists such as Illenium, Jonas Blue, Alison Wonderland, EDEN, Sigma and Axwell /\ Ingrosso. As a testament to this pioneering approach, Astralwerks has amassed 30 GRAMMY® nominations, taken home six GRAMMY Awards and had historic releases from the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Swedish House Mafia, Halsey, Porter Robinson, Phoenix, Eric Prydz, Fatboy Slim and many more.
