First World Opera Day on 25 October 2019
World Opera Day, a joint initiative of OPERA America, Ópera Latinoamérica and Opera Europa, supported by national and international cultural organisations, will see opera companies from around the world come together on 25 October, the birthdays of Georges Bizet, composer of Carmen, and Johann Strauss, composer of Die Fledermaus.

Opera companies will build the awareness campaign on the value of opera through local and online events.

In Europe, Teatro de la Maestranza is preparing an operatic surprise in the streets of Sevilla, while Irish National Opera will be hosting the INOJukebox streamed live from Facebook HQ in Dublin, Wuppertaler Bühnen will open its doors for a rehearsal of Puccini’s La bohème. OperaVision, the free streaming platform supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, will be celebrating World Opera Day online with streams from around the world: on 25 October with Bizet’s Carmen from National Centre for Performing Arts Beijing (China) and Strauss’ Die Fledermaus from Vienna State Opera (Austria); on 26 October with Mozart’s Don Giovanni from Teatro dell’opera di Roma (Italy); and on 27 October with Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia from Municipal de Santiago (Chile).
