EVITA
Lyrics by TIM RICE
Music by ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER
Directed and Choreographed by JOSH RHODES
November 18-December 30
Preview November 17

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita is iconic, winning more than 20 major awards including the Olivier and Tony® Awards for Best Musical, a Golden Globe® and an Oscar® for the film version starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas. The musical charts Eva Perón’s rags-to-riches rise from fatherless child, to ambitious actress, to the powerful and controversial First Lady of Argentina when she married military leader-turned-president Juan Perón at age 27.

Set in Argentina’s capital city Buenos Aires between 1934 and 1952, Evita features some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most passionate songs including ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’, ‘On This Night of a Thousand Stars’, and ‘Buenos Aires.’ The musical received international attention when it was first staged on London’s West End in 1978 and made the move to Broadway in 1979. We are thrilled to bring this “modern masterpiece” ( New York Post) to Asolo Rep in a stunning new staging.

Evita tickets are in very high demand and several early performances are sold out. We urge you to get your tickets NOW before they’re gone.

“I was riveted by Evita! The entire cast was phenomenal. The music, the scenery, the voices, the choreography! This moved me and I was filled with emotion. The actress that played Evita, brought me to tears on many occasions. I was so drawn in. Simply amazing! Do not miss this performance! Bravo! I want to see it again. Once wasn’t enough!”

FINAL WEEKEND
FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training presents:
OEDIPUS
By Sophocles
Directed by Greg Leaming
Now Playing through November 19

“…brilliantly conceived, masterfully written and timelessly universal…  For its 80 minutes in length (there is no intermission), I was never less than gripped by the story and engaged by the players.”

– Carrie Seidman, Sarasota Herald-Tribune

The FSU/Asolo Conservatory opens its season with Sophocles’ Oedipus, considered one of the greatest plays ever written and, thanks to Sigmund Freud, one of the most widely known in the modern world. Part murder mystery, part political thriller and part psychological whodunit, Sophocles’ Oedipus is the story of one very flawed hero discovering the awful burden of power.
