(Venice, FL) Registration for theatre classes is open now at www.venicestage.com, 941-486-8679 or in person at the theatre box office located at 140 W. Tampa Ave. The upcoming winter semester includes a variety of classes for children and adults beginning with Peter Ivanov’s theatre appreciation class called “That Show Changed My Life!” The first session is this Saturday, Jan. 17 from 1 – 2 p.m. and is open to the public at no charge. The four-week series explores the art, history and science of theatre.
Classes run from four to 11 weeks and will be taught by Ivanov, Candace Artim, Becky Holahan, Gladys Varga, Cara Herman, Jan Wallace and Michelle Neil. Scholarships are available for qualified applicants.
Most of Venice Theatre’s classes are performance-based in the winter session and build upon the fall “process” classes. New students who would like to register should call Candace at 941-486-8679 for proper placement. The performance classes include beginning, intermediate, advanced and specialty classes for students from kindergarten through adult. For the youngest students, there are creative play classes: Telling Tales! Creative Play for K-1 and Shake It Up! Creative Play for Grade 2. Both classes are fun-filled adventures into the world of theatre that build the students’ self-confidence and social skills.
For students in grades three through five and grades six through eight, Venice Theatre offers its popular Act 1: Beginning Acting Performs!, Act 2: Intermediate Acting Performs! and Act 3: Advanced Acting Performs! All classes will participate in a MainStage spring showcase on April 11, 2015 with technical rehearsals on April 9 and 10. Specialty classes range from Musical Motion to The Yellow Boat.
For adults 18 and older, the theatre offers exciting classes taught by professionals in their fields. Classes include Candace’s Improvisation: The basic tenet of Yes! and Peter Ivanov’s Scene Study.
Venice Theatre also offers private lessons for students who are interested in one-on-one instruction in acting and/or musical theatre; and a customized program for Girl Scout and Boy Scout badges.
In addition to seasonal classes, Venice Theatre offers a unique Technical Theatre Apprenticeship Program (TTAP). This is a career-track technical training program for students 16 years and older and is accredited by the Florida Department of Education. It is the ideal program for students who are interested in a career in technical theatre. Contact Sandy Davisson, VT’s Director of Education and Outreach at 941-486-8679 for further information about TTAP.
Again, registration can be done by phone via the Education and Outreach Office at 941-486-8679. Register in person at the theatre’s main box office at 140 W.
