Uber Joins Equality Florida, Reinforces Commitment to Anti-Discrimination Among LGBT
(Miami, Fla.) – Uber today announced that it has joined Equality Florida, the state’s largest civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida’s LGBT community. Uber has long been a proponent for equal rights, and supports an inclusive and diverse community where all driver-partners and passengers feel welcome and comfortable. This commitment was underscored in the Human Rights Campaign (HRC)’s Corporate Equality Index 2016, which named Uber as one of the Best Places to Work and awarded the company a perfect rating on the annual report.
“As part of celebrating our cities, Uber celebrates individuality and equality by bringing better access and reliable transportation to everyone across the State of Florida,” said Christine Mitchell, General Manager for Uber, Tampa Bay and Orlando. “We are proud to accept an invitation to join Equality Florida.”
“We are thrilled that Uber has joined our efforts in ending discrimination here in the nation’s third largest state,” said Equality Florida CEO, Nadine Smith. “Uber’s voice and continued commitment to LGBT equal rights serves as an important example that equality is not only good for business, but it’s the right thing to do.”
Uber is the 51st major company in Florida to join Equality Florida’s Equality Means Business program aimed at improving Florida’s national and international reputation as a welcoming and inclusive place to live, work and visit. (www.EqualityMeansBusiness.org).
