Tickets on Sale Now for Cross-Cultural Inspirational Drama “The Pastor,” Coming to Select U.S. Movie Theaters January 25 Only
Fathom Events and WolfGang Cinema Bring This Story About Faith, Redemption and Perseverance to the Big Screen This January
DENVER – December 14, 2015 – “The Pastor,” presented by Fathom Events and WolfGang Cinema, comes to movie theaters for one night on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 7 p.m. local time. “The Pastor” is both a dramatic character study and a redeeming parable that will have audiences rooting for the underdog. In addition to the feature, the event will include an exclusive panel discussion with prominent leaders from the U.S. and Latino faith-based community, such as Pastor Rudy Gracia and Reverend Samuel Rodriguez; an in-depth interview with the lead actor, story writer and producer Arturo Muyshondt and executive producer and actor, Pastor Carlos Ortiz; as well as a special musical performance.
Tickets for “The Pastor” are now available and can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com, or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in nearly 400 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).
“The Pastor” stars Arturo Muyshondt (“The Two Lives of Maxi Kaplan”), Franky G (Starz’s “Power,” Lionsgate’s “Saw” franchise), Micah Hauptman (“Everest,” Showtime’s “Homeland”), Angelic Zambrana (“Precious”), Victoria Cartagena (“Salt,” FOX’s “Gotham”) and Pastor Carlos Ortiz. This is the first Christian feature to depict the life of a Latino Christian community in the U.S., specifically dealing with youth who are targeted by gangs. After a brutal knife attack in prison, a former gang leader (Arturo Muyshondt) ends up in solitary confinement, where he discovers his faith in God and finds his true purpose as a pastor after being released on parole. He seeks out the underprivileged youth of his predominantly Hispanic community so they may find an alternative path to the dangerous gang lifestyle so rampant around them. He wants to establish a green zone to curb the violence, but is met with resistance from rival gang leaders who threaten him, his family and his community. Fighting his inner demons and violent instincts, the pastor must decide between maintaining his newfound faith or returning to the cold-blooded killer he once was.
“’The Pastor’ is a riveting story of redemption, compassion and standing firm in what you believe. We’re excited to partner with WolfGang Cinema for the first time to bring this event to the big screen,” said Fathom Events Vice President of Programming Kymberli Frueh.
Pastor Carlos Ortiz adds, “The story behind the story is sometimes as relevant as what we see up on the big screen. Knowing Arturo and being a part of his personal journey and this amazing film, has been one of the highlights of my life in service. This is a historical event, not only is this redeeming and inspirational film rooted in real life circumstances, but it is also the very first Latino Christian feature to come out of Hollywood.”
In addition, Arturo Muyshondt said, “What ‘Traffic’ did for the drug trade, ‘The Pastor’ does for the alarming reality of gang violence all across the U.S. We see our main character as he goes from a disadvantaged young man struggling with his purpose to a pastor bent on saving kids from falling into the same trap. We also see the origins and societal woes that drive so many kids to gangs in an utterly human and believable way that we hope will provoke much discussion and create awareness. What’s important to take on from my character’s journey and spiritual transformation, is that we all have the ability to change and to find God, no matter where we are or how dark our life might be. This has also proven to be true in my own personal life. I am thrilled to be sharing our project as a theatrical experience through Fathom Events.”
