Theatre Odyssey will present its Third Annual Student Ten-Minute Playwriting Festival on January 16, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the David S. and Ann V. Howard Studio Theatre, State College of Florida, Bradenton campus. “Again this year, Preston Boyd, actor, director, musician, and recently retired drama department head at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School is offering his talent as Artistic Director for the event. We are again thankful to use the excellent facility at State College of Florida, and we will not charge admission but ask for donations and sponsors,” said Tom Aposporos, Theatre Odyssey’s President.
The student festival is managed similarly to Theatre Odyssey’s Annual Ten-Minute Play Festival. The company identifies three qualified readers to select the plays, and then produces the selected plays for an audience including three capable and known theater professionals as judges of the works. Students must be Gulf coast area Florida residents and in grades 9 through 12, or home-schooled equivalent, during the 2014-2015 school year to be eligible. The winning play, and often a runner-up, is selected. The festival winning playwright receives a cash prize, and the play is presented again at the Ten-Minute Play Festival. Ultimately, the company publishes the play in its anthology of produced plays.

“We are excited about this event. It will be a wonderful lead-up to our Tenth Annual Ten-Minute Play Festival April 30 through May 3 at the Jane B. Cook Theatre at the FSU/Asolo Center for the Performing Arts,” said Aposporos.
