Music lecture, performance series coming to Selby Public Library beginning Jan. 6
SARASOTA COUNTY –  The 2016 Sarasota Music Archive Lecture and Performance Series at Selby Public Library will present six lectures focusing on opera and six performances of classical, jazz, or folk music. The popular series is held on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. from Jan. 6 to March 23, 2016, in the Geldbart Auditorium at the library, 1331 First St., Sarasota.
The events are free and open to the public, and the doors open at 10 a.m. Many of the concerts are filled to capacity, so early arrival is encouraged. The series will open Jan. 6 with studio artists from the Sarasota Opera in selections from Verdi operas.
Lectures by the well-known musician and lecturer Dr. John Goodman will include Verdi’s “Aida,” Puccini’s “Turandot,” Beethoven’s “Fidelio,” Verdi’s “La Battaglia di Legnano,” Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” and Strauss’ “Electra.” Other performing artists include solo piano concerts with Mary Rose Norell from Goshen College; Celtic music expert and pianist Gregory Martin from Indianapolis University; the well-known local jazz pianist Bob Constantino and Friends; popular folk team the Dunn Deal; and Cheryl Losey, harp, and Betty Hudson, flute, from the Sarasota Orchestra.
