The Symphony League and Saks Fifth Avenue Partner for an Elegant Evening for Education

     CANTON, OH (August 7, 2014) – On Thursday September 11th,  Canton is getting  a taste of New York’s Fashion Week when Saks Fifth Avenue comes to town for  an evening Fashion Show presented by the Symphony League of Canton.  Proceeds from “Symphony of Style” will benefit the educational outreach programs of the Canton Symphony Orchestra.

Against the backdrop of the majestic statue of Pegasus in the Cultural Center for the Arts, the high energy show will feature lights and sound by Rock the House productions, exquisite florals by Something New Floral and Events, catering by Brookside Country Club, and the latest in men’s and women’s fashion provided exclusively by Saks Fifth Avenue.

Leda Kendig, chair for the event, and Gayle DiPietro, co-chair, are thrilled by the participation of Saks Fifth Avenue.  Kendig emphasized that the show is premiering clothing for both men and woman. “Woman should encourage their husbands, boyfriends, and sons to attend since there will be something for everyone.”  Kendig, DiPietro and their committee have been making preparations with Saks Fifth Avenue since December.  “It really will be a red carpet affair! Saks Fifth Avenue has ordered in exclusive fashions from designer brands just for this show.” Kendig added.

Saks, founded by Horace Saks and Bernard Gimbel, started as one shop located on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. The company has grown to over 39 stores in 22 different states. It still remains on the fore front of cutting edge retail fashion.

“The evening event will be quite different from other Stark County fashion shows, ” said DiPietro.  Along with the fashion show, there will be a cocktail party, and a raffle that includes a Saks Fifth Avenue shopping spree, and donations from Canton’s own Gasser Fine Jewelers, Brookside Country Club, and women’s clothier Lingenfelter Brill.  “This will be an evening of glamour and fashion, all in support of the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s efforts in opening the doors to music to the youth of our community,” Kendig added.

The Canton Symphony Orchestra provides educational programs for the community such as the Canton Youth Symphony, SymphonyLand, Kinder Concert, Young Peoples Concert, Listen at the Library and new ConverZations series. Lisa Boyer, Director of Education and Community Engagement for the CSO, said “The Canton community is very fortunate to have a professional orchestra available to them as a resource. Events like the fashion show allow for the orchestra to grow and provide even more opportunities for those in the community.”
