ST. LOUIS SYMPHONY NOMINATED FOR TWO GRAMMY AWARDS
Best Orchestral Performance & Best Engineered (Classical) Album for John Adams’ City Noir on Nonesuch Records
December 5, 2014 – Today the St. Louis Symphony received two Grammy Award nominations for its recording of John Adams’ City Noir—Best Orchestral Performance and Best Engineered (Classical) Album. The Nonesuch recording includes two recent compositions by American composer Adams, the symphonic work City Noir, and the Saxophone Concerto, featuring soloist Timothy McCallister. Both works were recorded live at Powell Hall in 2013, with St. Louis Symphony Music Director David Robertson conducting.
National Public Radio had previously selected the recording as one of its top 25 so far in 2014, and said of the CD “…the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and conductor David Robertson are born naturals for this music, turning in fresh, dynamic and invigorating performances.”
These are the first Grammy nominations for the Symphony since 1991. The St. Louis Symphony had received 56 Grammy nominations previous to City Noir, and has received six Grammy Awards in its history. The Grammy Awards ceremonies will be held in Los Angeles on February 8, 2015.
