June 24th, 2016 – (Los Angeles, CA) – Juno Award-nominated, critically acclaimed rapper, singer, songwriter, and visual maverick SonReal will release The Name EP on August 12th via Capitol Records/ Black Box.  The EP is available for pre-order from all digital retailers beginning today.  Those who pre-order will receive instant download of his new single “Can I Get A Witness” and new track “Soho” for which a video will also be released in the coming weeks.  SonReal co-wrote each track on the EP and “Can I Get A Witness” has hit Spotify’s Global, U.S., and Canadian Viral charts, already racking up more than 2.1 million plays. Spotify showcased the song as part of its coveted “New Music Friday” Playlist, along with Most DefiLitly” and “Hip Hop Hits. In addition, Apple Music featured it on the “Best of the Week” Playlist.  Built on bright melody and shimmying beats, “Can I Get a Witness” finds SonReal teaming up with heavyweight producers including Rush and RedOne (Nicki Minaj, Eminem) while the song reveals SonReal’s intricate flow and a sharp sense of songcraft.
SonReal hit the road this month with his Capitol Records labelmate Jon Bellion for a nationwide cross-country tour. Please see below for all upcoming tour dates.  SonReal is also inviting lucky fans onto his tour bus before each show to hear tracks from The Name EP before the official August release.  Check out a live performance of “Can I Get A Witness filmed along the tour HERE.
Known for his comedic larger-than-life videos which have over 8 million combined views, SonReal upholds this tradition with the clip for “Can I Get A Witness,” with a concept inspired by the song’s lyrics in which the rapper explains how some of his old fans are accusing him of changing his musical style. Rocking in a court room, he presents a wild lyrical case as the jury sits astonished. A cadre of characters from his previous internet smashes “Everywhere We Go,” “Whoa Nilly,” and “For The Town” make cameos on the witness stand. The video was directed by Peter Huang, who directed the previously mentioned clips. Watch “Can I Get A Witness” HERE.
In Canada, SonReal has become a hip-hop phenomenon. The lyricist and songwriter has been nominated for five JUNO awards, including two this year both for “Rap Recording of The Year” and “Video of the Year” for “For The Town” from his EP of the same name.  He has garnered a total of eight Much Music Video Award nominations, five of which came in 2014 when he took home MuchFact Video of the Year for “Everywhere We Go,” (which also earned a JUNO nod for “Rap Recording of the Year”). MTV Newscalled him “Drake’s Biggest Competition at the JUNO Awards,” while Huffington Post wrote, “SonReal has his own flow, his own style, his own message. And he’s pretty damn good at it.” Along the way, he also received glowing praise from Noisey/Vice, The Source, Huffington Post, Verge, Earmilk, HipHopDX, and more. He’s released a string of buzzworthy projects including, Good News (2012) The Closers (2013), One Long Day (2014), and 2015’s For The Town.
