(Sarasota-Manatee) Area singles are invited to learn about the best river cruises in the world in a dynamic presentation by AmaWaterways, recently rated the top river cruise line by Berlitz, Thursday, July 31, 5 p.m., at the Sarasota Yacht Club, 1100 Ringling Blvd, Sarasota. The event also features a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception before the presentation in the Ringling Room. The event is free for SSS members; $20 for non-members. Reservations need to be made by July 28. For more information, call 941-504-4064 or visit www.sarasotasinglessociety.com.
“We’re delighted to offer a presentation by AmaWaterways,” says Sherry Janes, president of Sarasota Singles Society. “The company was recently recognized as the only river cruise company based in the U.S. to receive an overall 4-Star Plus rating in the first edition of the Berlitz: River Cruising In Europe travel guide.” Janes adds that, “river cruising is currently the hottest buzz in the travel industry. The long, sleek ships are designed to navigate rivers and low ancient bridges, taking travelers right into the heart and culture of old-world cities.” She says that AmaWaterway ships accommodate 140 to 164 people and provide “supreme comfort and convenience making it the premier way to experience magnificent cities, historic villages and little-seen enclaves.”
Janes also invites attendees to learn more about Sarasota Singles Society’s inaugural river cruise, “The Enchanting Rhine,” which will depart from Basel, Switzerland, on April 20, 2015, with an option to stay two nights in Zurich and two in Lucerne at five-star hotels. “We’ll be traveling through Switzerland, Germany, France and Holland, and arriving in Amsterdam at the peak of the tulip bloom season, passing fields with millions of colorful blooms,” she says. “We’ll learn more about this trip and offer guests the opportunity to meet some of the people already signed up to go,” she says. “Staterooms are limited so we’re letting everyone know this is the opportunity to not miss the boat!”
Janes, a retired interior designer who moved to Sarasota from Highlands, North Carolina, in 2012, says she launched the group after experiencing challenges meeting new friends and potential dates. Her inspiration? A successful singles society her friends had created in Chicago. “I used their group as a model—and I’m happy to say the concept works perfectly here,” she says. Janes adds that the Sarasota social group goes beyond helping area singles meet; it also offers opportunities to develop life-long friendships while enjoying upscale social events, culture and travel.
“It’s a wonderful way to make new friends, enjoy an active social life, find compatible travel companions, or network for your business,” she says. “We provide opportunities for single people of all ages to meet and socialize in comfortable settings that allow people to develop relationships in a natural way.”
She says that in less than a year, many people have already made meaningful connections.
“These connections don’t always lead to romance but they do lead to friendships,” says Janes. “This is especially true for people who just relocated to the area, or those who recently lost their life partner. It’s just a natural way to make new friends, enjoy an active and fulfilling social life, and, yes, perhaps meet a new romantic interest.”
