(Sarasota, Florida) The Sarasota Concert Association’s 2013-2014 Munchtime Musicales series of free lunchtime concerts concludes with the Gloria Musicae Singers, Sarasota’s professional vocal ensemble known for stimulating performances of great choral music. The group will perform a program that includes opera choruses by Verdi and Bizet, a salute to George Gershwin, and much more, April 16, 2014, noon, in David Cohen Hall at Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Gloria Musicae is a Sarasota-based professional vocal ensemble that celebrates choral music through innovative performances. The critically acclaimed group, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Holt, performs a repertoire spanning four centuries, and includes major works with orchestra, intimate madrigals, church motets, folk songs, close-harmony jazz, and Broadway show music. The ensemble also specializes in premiere performances of lesser-known choral works, particularly those works by living American composers. Gloria Musicae has performed premieres by Rene Clausen, Dick Hyman, Robert Levin, Gwyneth Walker, and James Grant, along with the premiere of a new edition of a rarely heard score by Rossini.

Holt says that this concert will feature works for solo and apprentice singers, as well as the entire group. He adds that the program will include opera choruses by Verdi and Bizet, a Gershwin salute, previews of the group’s upcoming “Voices of the Holocaust” concert, and, if time permits, a four-hand piano selection performed by Holt and pianist Alan Corey.

Munchtime Musicales is a series of free concerts featuring performances by high-caliber, area-based artists. The series is designed to offer a wide variety of musical genres, including classical, folk, and jazz, featuring both vocal and instrumental performers. All performances are at noon at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The series is free and open to the public. Seating is open; no reservations taken.
