No One Asked You: Fights for Rights with Laughs

By Candace Carson

Forget stuffy documentaries! “No One Asked You” tackles the hot-button issue of abortion rights in the US with a wild mix of stand-up comedy and serious activism.

Lizz Winstead, co-founder of The Daily Show, leads the charge. This ain’t your grandma’s pro-choice rally. She and her crew from Abortion Access Front hit the road on a six-year “Vagical Mystery Tour,” using comedy to challenge the status quo and raise awareness for abortion clinics.

It’s funny! Like, actually funny. Humor is used to break the ice on a tough topic and get you thinking. Comedy challenges anti-abortion rhetoric and creates a space for open dialog.

The doc takes you right into the trenches of the fight, showing the amazing work clinic staff do and the challenges women face. You’ll learn about Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) – basically misleading clinics that don’t actually provide real healthcare.

This film is firmly on the pro-choice side, so don’t expect a super balanced debate. The documentary doesn’t shy away from the realities of the abortion debate, potentially stirring strong emotions in viewers on both sides of the issue.

“No One Asked You” is a documentary with a punch (pun intended). It’s funny, informative, and guaranteed to spark a conversation. If you’re down for a unique and thought-provoking take on reproductive rights, catch it at the Sarasota Film Festival. Just remember, it wears its heart (and funny bone) on its sleeve.
