Realize Bradenton Announces

“Faces of HIV” Mobile Art Exhibit at Bradenton Farmers’ Market

March 7, Old Main Street in Bradenton

(Bradenton, FL) “Faces of HIV,” an educational mobile art exhibit created by the Florida Department of Health, will be on display at the Bradenton Farmers’ Market, Saturday March 7, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., on Main Street, between Manatee Avenue West and 3rd Avenue West in downtown Bradenton. The project allows people from across the state to experience real-life stories of inspirational and courageous individuals who have shared their difficulties, battles, and triumphs by giving visitors an up-close and personal glimpse into the lives of those living with HIV in hopes of promoting awareness and understanding about the disease. Parking is free and dogs on leashes are welcome. For more information about the Bradenton Farmers’ Market, visit www.bradentonfarmersmarket.com.

“We invite everyone to visit the ‘Faces of HIV’ exhibit to experience captivating portraits, poignant journals, and touching stories of Florida residents surviving and thriving with HIV,” says Judy Sedgeman, board chair for Realize Bradenton. “The goal is to reduce stigma associated with the disease. Social stigma is a significant barrier to people getting tested for HIV and seeking care and testing is critical to getting the care you need to sustain a productive and healthy life.” She adds that the Florida Department of Health in Manatee County (DOH-Manatee) will also be onsite providing free STD and rapid HIV tests.

“This is a great opportunity to get tested and know your HIV status,” says Dr. Jennifer Bencie, DOH-Manatee administrator. “It is imperative that we raise awareness so we prevent more cases.”
