Pilobolus: Acclaimed Dance Company to Push the Limits of Dance to the Max With a Weekend Performance Explosion at Fairfield University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts

As part of their partnership with the Quick Center, Pilobolus will “wow” audiences with athletic, artistic performances of classic works and pieces never before seen in Connecticut.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (September 12, 2018)—For over 40 years, audiences around the world have celebrated the acclaimed dance company, Pilobolus.

As part of a year-long collaboration, the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts will present the Pilobolus Performance Explosion— a weekend of performances featuring: Shadowland 2: The New Adventure — a preview on Friday, September 21 at 8 p.m., and Come to Your Senses — an evening of mixed repertoireon Saturday, September 22 at 8 p.m.

For the first performance on Friday, come to the Quick for a rare behind-the-scenes look at the rehearsal process of Connecticut’s own world-renowned dance company, as artistic directors Renee Jaworski and Matt Kent run through the technical, choreographic, and dramatic elements of Shadowland 2: The New Adventure. Be a part of the preparations for the show’s first American tour, and join Pilobolus artistic directors and performers for a discussion after the informal performance.

Shadowland 2uses exploration of mixed media to tell a love story about two people and their quixotic quest to save an imaginary bird. Employing animation, video, and shadow-theater, this madcap adventure dips its toe into the genres of science fiction, film noir, and romantic comedy. Shadowland 2has toured the globe but has rarely been seen in the U.S., making this a special treat for local audiences.

The second Pilobolus performance, Come to Your Senses, will take place on Saturday night and will include Gnomen, a quartet for men with a lyrical exploration of relationships emerging from an unusually inventive physical vocabulary. It will also feature Branches, a more recent work, scored with and based upon natural sounds, which explores the rich beauty, humor, and drama of the phylogenetic tree. Additionally, Pilobolus will team up with Indie rocker Thao Nguyen to create Warp & Weft by the company’s first all-woman trio. Working in the mode of collage, three mysterious shape shifters draped in red velvet will invoke darkly comic, physically theatrical expressions of identity, sacrifice, and power.

The Pilobolus Performance Explosion is sponsored by Moffly Media and the Westport Inn. Tickets are $100 for the two shows or $70 for one show, with discounts for Quick Members. For more information or to reserve your seat, visit www.quickcenter.com or call the box office at 203-254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396.
