The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast (PMP/Suncoast) will be one of five local
organizations to perform in the closing ceremonies of this year’s Modern Pentathlon World Cup I on Sunday, February 22nd at 5 p.m. at Nathan Benderson Park, 5851 Nathan Benderson Circle, Sarasota.

The performance will take place while images of the weekend’s competition are shown on the Jumbo-tron. Distinguished alumni of The Perlman Music Program to perform are violist Molly Carr and violinist Doori Na. The musicians will appear due to generous support by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The musical composition they will play is Passacaglia from Harpsichord Suite No. 7 in G Minor Arr. for violin and viola, by Johan Halvorsen (1864-1935), George Frideric Handel (1685-1759).

ABOUT THE SARASOTA BRADENTON MODERN PENTATHLON

The 2015 Modern Pentathlon World Cup I provides residents and visitors to the Sarasota-Bradenton area the opportunity to see the world’s most complete athletes compete in an Olympic qualifying event. By infusing a blend of art and cultural events into the competition this year, organizers have created a mini-Olympic style experience for the participants and spectators. About the Artists:
Doori Na

Doori Na began violin studies at the age of four and made his solo debut with orchestra at the age of seven with the Peninsula Youth Symphony. Currently living in New York City, Doori has performed with many different ensembles around the city ranging from Classical and New Music to Jazz. An avid chamber musician, he has collaborated with artists including Itzhak Perlman, Roger Tapping, Carol Wincenc, Cynthia Phelps, and Nancy Allen. In 2011, Doori participated in Chick Corea’s album, The Continents, released by Deutsche Grammophon. He has been regularly performing with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and is also a violin soloist for the New Chamber Ballet. Doori holds a Bachelors of Music from The Juilliard School where he studied with Itzhak Perlman, Catherine Cho, and Donald Weilerstein. He was concertmaster of the Juilliard Orchestra, and was chosen to travel to Sào Paulo, Brazil in 2012 where he gave masterclasses and performed for students. He has won numerous competitions in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Molly Carr

Molly Carr received both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the Julliard School and holds a Viola Faculty position in both the Juilliard precollege program in New York City, as well as the Galamian School in Malaga, Spain. Praised for her “ravishing sound” (the STRAD) and “passionate talent and beautiful poise… all in one package” (AVS), Carr was a top Prize Winner in the 2008 Primrose International Viola Competition. As winner of the 2010 Juilliard Viola Concerto Competition, Ms. Carr made her New York solo debut with the Juilliard Orchestra under Xian Zhang, performing the Bartok Viola Concerto in Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. She has won several other major honors, including first prize in the National Solo Competition of the American String Teacher’s Association.
