NICK MARTINEZ ACTIVATED FROM 15-DAY DISABLED LIST
Soto placed on DL with right groin strain
New York, NY – The Texas Rangers today announced that right-handed pitcher Nick Martinez has been activated from the 15-day disabled list. Martinez (#22) will start tonight for the Rangers against the New York Yankees in New York.
To make room on the roster, catcher Geovany Soto has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain.
Martinez was placed on disabled list on July 8, retroactive to July 2, with discomfort in his left side, which he sustained while taking pitchers batting practice in Baltimore on July 2. His last appearance was a loss in a start at Baltimore on July 1 (5.0 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 6 ER). Martinez is 1-6, 5.10 in 16 games/11 starts with Texas in 2014, his first major league action. He is 0-5 in his last seven starts since winning in Detroit on May 24.
Soto sustained the injury running the bases in the sixth inning on Monday. He had missed the entire season after undergoing right knee surgery in March before being activated on July 17. He was 4-for-11 with an RBI in three games, all starts at catcher, for the Rangers since his return.
With today’s moves, the Rangers’ major league roster remains at 40 players.
