BENEDETTI AND MACELARU PERFORM MARSALIS CONCERTO

Nicola Benedetti and Cristian Macelaru came together with Wynton Marsalis earlier this month with the Philadelphia Orchestra on the Marsalis Violin Concerto, coming straight from performances at the San Diego Symphony. Upon hearing the new masterpiece, the audiences erupted in applause and The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote: “Benedetti negotiated the stream of variegated material with great sensitivity to style. Marsalis emerges as a musical raconteur of the best sort and there was great art in the telling.” The second half of the program featured Holst’s The Planets, where “Macelaru’s way with ‘Mars, the Bringer of War’ could hardly have been more bellicose”.
