Acclaimed New Zealand folk singer/songwriter JACKIE BRISTOW is set to release her fourth full-length album, Shot Of Gold, October 7 with U.S. distribution by Metropolitan Groove Merchants. The emotive 10-song collection was recorded in Sydney, Australia with producer Mark Punch and features the singles “Whistle Blowin'” and “I Don’t Want To Come Down.”
Shot of Gold is an album of real stories and experiences in my life – songs of struggle, joy, love, loss and healing,” JACKIE explains. “I was living in Austin, TX when I wrote this album and was inspired by southern blues and roots music, and all of the incredible American musicians I met along the way.  I stepped away from trying to write commercial mainstream music and wrote stories from my heart and my life. When I wasn’t on stage singing, I found myself alone quite a lot. This was good for my creativity, but not always easy. That experience inspired me to record this album with raw and sparse production, built around my solo performances.”
BRISTOW released Shot Of Gold in Australia and her native New Zealand in February 2016 to wide acclaim. Of the new music, Stuff (NZ) wrote, “Here, she lets the river flow through her veins and allows herself to be carried along in its gentle but powerful current. There is respect for its awesome force, but no fear. She is perfectly in tune with her surroundings…Her tunes have a dark, classic quality to them, set off by haunting melodies and thoughtful acoustic guitar chording. The songs are so perfectly formed that their titles sing themselves.”
JACKIE is gearing up to hit the road in support of the new release, with several dates running through mid-November (see below for a full list; more dates will be added soon). JACKIE is no stranger to the stage, with a reputation for her captivating performances and nonstop international touring, and has previously opened for The Steve Miller Band, Bonnie Raitt, John Oates, John Waite, Marc Cohn and Rick Springfield, among many others. In one review, following a performance with Tommy Emmanuel a journalist wrote, “Opening for a musical giant like Emmanuel would seem a daunting task, but Bristow was relaxed as her soulfully-seductive melodies reverberated within the auditorium. Her beautiful voice and earnest songs resonated with the audience, and they applauded her eagerly. Near the end of the show, Bristow joined Emmanuel on stage for an amazing duet that received a standing ovation.” Check out a live performance video of “Fallen Youth,” off Shot Of Gold, filmed at Radio New Zealand here.
