LOS ANGELES — Mayor Eric Garcetti announced today that several cooling centers will have extended hours this coming Sunday and Monday so Angelenos without access to air conditioning can visit during the record heat expected to hit the region over the next few days. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Los Angeles in effect for Monday from 11 am – 8 pm, and maximum temperatures and heat index values will reach between 100 and 110 degrees in many locations. Temperatures will heat up on Sunday, peak on Monday, and begin cooling on Tuesday.

“Our City’s libraries, recreation centers, and senior centers are all a part of L.A.’s network of cooling centers, and they are always available to you during regular business hours,” said Mayor Garcetti.  “We’re adding hours at several centers on the hottest days where the temperatures will be highest so our most vulnerable residents can stay cool, healthy, and safe.”
Mayor Garcetti also encouraged Angelenos to do their part to save energy and help avoid electricity shortages.  Tips for staying cool and saving energy, along with a list of cooling centers, are available at or by calling 311.
