LOS ANGELES — Mayor Eric Garcetti announced today that several cooling centers will have extended hours this coming Sunday and Monday so Angelenos without access to air conditioning can visit during the record heat expected to hit the region over the next few days. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Los Angeles in effect for Monday from 11 am – 8 pm, and maximum temperatures and heat index values will reach between 100 and 110 degrees in many locations. Temperatures will heat up on Sunday, peak on Monday, and begin cooling on Tuesday.
