MAYOR GARCETTI ANNOUNCES CONTINUED DROP IN CRIME

LOS ANGELES–Mayor Eric Garcetti today announced that mid-year crime statistics show a reduction in every LAPD bureau in the city, making Los Angeles safer than it’s been since 1949.
“We’re on our way to a 12th straight year of declining crime in our city,” said Mayor Garcetti.  “It’s thanks to smart, data-driven policing, a focus on prevention as well as enforcement, and an LAPD that works with, not against, the communities it serves.”
For the first six months of 2014, the total number of citywide Part 1 crimes was down 5.4% compared to the same time period last year.  Property crimes are down 7%, homicides are down 1.5%, and gang-related crime is down 13.1%.  Robberies dropped 5.7%, burglaries 14.6%, motor vehicle thefts 7%, and larcenies 4.8%.  More statistics are available in the attached document.
“Our parks are open late for our kids, our streets are safer for the people who live there, and countless lives have been saved because of our focus on fighting crime,” added Mayor Garcetti.
