Masa’s Music Video for “Pinos”
Premieres on Refinery 29

Masa is Didi Gutman and Hector Castillo

“…”Pinos” and its accompanying video is so effortlessly cool, you wonder why these two haven’t joined forces before.” Refinery 29

Argentine musician Didi Gutman (leader and founder of Brazilian Girls) and Venezuelan producer Hector Castillo (David Bowie, Lou Reed, Roger Waters, Bjork, Philip Glass) created Masa by chance in New York City during the summer of 2010. The project is a culmination of friendship, mutual admiration, and shared professional experiences since Hector has produced for Didi’s Brazilian Girls.

The typical elements that characterize and define Gutman as an artist can be found in the music of Masa. Hector Castillo’s contribution is seen in the refined and exquisite sensitivity of production. With electronic beats and textures, Masa define modernity, playing with imagery through the use of the Spanish language. Masa is something like a marriage between the Gorillaz and Soda Stereo.

Now they have finished mixing and mastering the recording of their first album, which will be released in 2014. Today they released their first music video for the album’s lead single, “Pinos.” The music video premiered on Refinery 29 and features Miho Hatori, one half of Cibo Matto. While the song is in Spanish, it is so catchy and wonderfully crafted that it’s hard not to nod your head along, even if you don’t know what he’s saying. An English version of the track has also been recorded and will be released as a bonus track on their record.

Keep on the lookout for more big things from Masa, including the release of their debut album!
