Margaret Tao Named Executive Director of Asia Week New York
New York: Margaret Tao was named Executive Director of Asia Week New York, it was announced by Lark Mason, Chairman of Asia Week New York 2016.
“We are delighted that Margaret is our new Executive Director of Asia Week New York,” said Mason. “Her extensive knowledge of the Asian art market will certainly enhance our visibility and broaden our reach to new collectors.” According to Mason, Noémie Bonnet, who previously held the position, is stepping down in order to pursue various projects, but will continue working with the association as its Technology Consultant.
Working with the group’s Asia Week Planning Committee of gallery and auction house representatives, Ms. Tao will oversee the strategies and operations necessary to continue raising Asia Week New York’s profile as a premier destination on the international Asian art calendar.
“I look forward to building and expanding upon the superior standards Asia Week
New York has thus far established under the stewardship of Noémie,” said Ms. Tao, whose involvement with the Association as its Administrative Coordinator started in 2011. “I believe that my long-standing relationships with many of the major personalities in the Asian art world over the past 25 years give me a unique vantage point from which to enhance the scope of Asia Week New York.”
Held annually in March throughout the metropolitan New York region, Asia Week New York is the collaboration of approximately 40 top-tier Asian art specialists, major auction houses, museums and Asian cultural institutions. T nine-day celebration, which is scheduled for March 10 to 19, 2016, is filled with a non-stop schedule of simultaneous gallery open houses, Asian art auctions as well as numerous museum exhibitions, lectures, and special events.
About Margaret Tao
Margaret Tao has had a distinguished career in the Asian art world, first at Sotheby’s in the Chinese department and then as the U.S. representative for Orientations, one of the leading Asian art publications. As a journalist covering the field for the past 25 years, she has been a regular contributor to Orientations, Art + Auction, Asian Art Newspaper and has also written articles for Architectural Digest and Departures, among other publications. Prior to becoming a journalist, Ms. Tao was the Gallery Director at the Didier Aaron, Inc. in New York.
Born in New York, Ms. Tao attended the Lycée Français in New York and in London, followed by Wellesley College, where she received a B.A. in Asian Studies. She is bilingual in French and fluent in Mandarin.
