Dayton, Ohio—Lansing starting pitcher Sean Reid-Foley struck out 10 batters and allowed just one hit over five and two-thirds scoreless innings as the Lugnuts defeated the Dayton Dragons 4-0 on Saturday night. A crowd of 9,083 attended the game at Fifth Third Field.

Lansing has won the first two games of the four-game series and opened a four-game lead over the Dragons in the East Division with 20 games to play in the first half race. The two clubs meet again Sunday afternoon and Monday night.

Reid-Foley, the Blue Jays second round draft pick in 2014 out of the California high school ranks, allowed only one batter as far as second base while establishing a season high for strikeouts by a Dragons opponent. Throwing fastballs in the mid-90’s, he walked only one batter before leaving the game with two outs in the sixth.

Lansing scored one run in the third and added three more in the sixth to close out the scoring. The Lansing bullpen followed Reid-Foley with three and one-third innings of near perfect relief, allowing just two base runners.

Dragons starting pitcher Tejay Antone allowed just one hit over his first five innings while striking out seven, but he surrendered four hits in the sixth. Antone (3-4) left the game after five and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and four runs with one walk and seven strikeouts. His earned run average jumped to a still-impressive 2.18.

Gavin LaValley provided the only offense for the Dragons, going 2 for 4 with a single and double. Narciso Crook’s infield single was the Dragons only other hit.

The Lugnuts (30-20) remained in first place with the win, holding a lead of two and one-half games over second place Bowling Green. The Dragons (26-24) stayed in third place, one and one-half games out of second.

The Dragons host Lansing in game three of the series on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Seth Varner (5-3, 2.98) will start for Dayton against Lansing’s Chase De Jong (4-4, 3.45).
