WHO               JAZZ CLUB OF SARASOTA PRESENTS THREE BANDS:

 

  • State College of Florida Jazz Ensemble with Marc Mannino, Director, leading the Little Big Band (12 musicians) and the SCF Jazz Ensemble Big Band (18 musicians).

 

  • The Old Souls Jazz Sextet. Young jazz musicians with international credits, many of them Jazz Club Scholarship winners: Bit Risner, trumpet & vocals; Liston Gregory, piano; Jose Villalpando, bass; John Medico, drums; Patrick Daut, guitar; and Alex Hernandez, tenor sax.

 

  • The Ken Loomer Jazz Big Band. Drummer Ken Loomer leads this 15-piece contemporary band of hard-swinging musicians.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9: Jazz Trolley and Pub Crawl to 8 clubs in downtown Sarasota with jazz musicians in each. THURSDAY, MARCH 10: Evening concert. Diego Figueiredo and Ken Peplowski reprise “Jazz Samba,” the classic recorded by Charlie Bird and Stan Getz; with Chuck Bergeron John Yarling. 7:30 p.m., Riverview PAC.

 

FRIDAY, MARCH 11: Evening concert. Wycliffe Gordon headlines a concert with the Billy Marcus Trio, including Don Mopsick and Stephen Bucholtz. Gordon will receive the Satchmo Award, the Jazz Club’s highest honor. Bob Seymour, Jazz Director at WUSF Public Broadcasting and an honorary member of the Jazz Club’s board of directors, will make the presentation. 7:30 p.m., Riverview PAC.

 

SATURDAY, MARCH 12: Evening concert. The Jazz All-Stars take the stage—Dick Hyman, Howard Alden, John Lamb, Russell Malone, Mark Feinman and a Special Surprise Guest. 7:30 p.m., Riverview PAC.

The Jazz Club of Sarasota, founded in 1980, is dedicated to preserving, promoting and presenting jazz, America’s original musical art form. The Club has provided over 50 jazz-related events annually for more than 35 years. Chief among them is the highly respected Sarasota Jazz Festival, with the 36th Festival set for March 6-12, 2016.
