Mini-Concert & Lecture Series

February 10
from 7:30pm
voice and classical guitar concert
by Analise Skovmand and Pablo González Jazey

* free / open to the public, no reservations necessary

* Art Center Sarasota 707 N Tamiami Tr, Sarasota 34236

The Inca Rose Duo is comprised of soprano Annelise Skovmand and guitarist Pablo González Jazey. The Duo bridges the divide between classical and popular music by melding elements from both genres into new musical expressions. Performances include selections of original interpretations of both traditional and modern music for guitar and voice, ranging from Renaissance music to songs of the Beatles to American folk tunes. Formed in 1998, the Inca Rose Duo has performed at festivals and venues in Argentina and the United States, including at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. La Nación newspaper of Buenos Aires reported that the Duo achieves a “musically brilliant atmosphere”. Inca Rose Duo performed at our international concert series in 2006, and returned later in 2009 as Inca Rose Trio to Art Center Sarasota. In 2010, Pablo performed at the international concert series in duo with Thomas Koch.

Alvaro Pierri Uruguranian classical guitarist

Saturday, February 22 from 7:30pm

Alvaro Pierri continues the 2014 GuitarSarasota classical guitar series on February 22.

Guitar legend Alvaro Pierri was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. From an early age he won international guitar competitions, including 1st Prize in the International Guitar Competition in Buenos Aires, Argentina; 1st Prize in the International Guitar Competition in Porto Alegre, Brazil; and the Gold Medal at the 18th International Competition by Radio France in Paris, France. Pierri’s debut in the US took place int New York and he received outstanding reviews: Mr Pierri revealed an artistic maturity not commonly encountered …  compared to artists as Segovia, Bream, Williams … brilliant, sensitive, versatile, breathtaking.

In 1983 he made his debut in Germany with the string soloists of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and he subsequently appeared on numerous radio and television programs produced by the German, Austrian, Danish, Spanish, French, Canadian, Korean, and Japanese Radios. Several of his CDs received highly acclaimed prizes and reviews. He earned the coveted Canadian FELIX award, twice, for the Best Classical CD of the Year. Pioneer Classics Japan recently released a  DVD featuring Spanish and South American guitar music by Alvaro Pierri. Deutsch Grammophone re-published a DVD with Alvaro Pierri performing a duo with Astor Piazzolla’s and his Double Concerto.

Alvaro Pierri is an internationally acclaimed teacher and many of his students have won major international guitar Competitions. He was professor at the University of Santa Maria in Brazil; McGill University in Montreal, Canada; and in 2002 he was appointed professor at the famous Academy of Music in Vienna, Austria – today, the University of Music and Performing Arts.

We hope you can join us for this very special classical guitar concert.
