Gramophone Award-winning Pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet Kicks Off North American Tour with London Philharmonic and Vladimir Jurowski on Thursday, Oct 9
On Thursday, October 9, pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet begins an eight-city North American tour with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Vladimir Jurowski, featuring Prokofiev’s Third Concerto and Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. The tour will see Bavouzet make his Carnegie Hall debut with the Rachmaninoff on October 16, as well as the pianist’s Northridge, CA and Toronto debuts (Oct 10 & 17). Bavouzet’s recordings of the complete Prokofiev Piano Concertos have already received rave reviews and were recently honored with the 2014 Gramophone Award for Concerto Recording of the Year – his third time receiving the award. Bavouzet’s recent performance of the Prokofiev Third Piano Concerto with Jurowski and the LPO in the orchestra’s season-opening concert on September 24 drew a enthusiastic response from London’s press, with The Guardian reporting:
“Finely nuanced in touch and tone, his performance demonstrated the delicacy as well as the mechanised energy of the young Russian composer’s dazzling talent, while his two encores, by Debussy and Massenet, offered further evidence of his subtle colouristic range and flawless dexterity.“
Steadily adding major orchestras around the world to his list of collaborators, during the season Bavouzet makes his debuts with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg under Emmanuel Krivine and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under Louis Langrée, with whom he performed at last year’s Mostly Mozart Festival at New York’s Lincoln Center. Vladimir Ashkenazy has also invited him to make his debut with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano this season, after the two performed together in several concerts with the Philharmonia Orchestra last season, and previously with the Cleveland Orchestra. His international reputation has led to engagements around North America with the Montreal Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Boston Symphony, New York Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony and Dallas Symphony, and this season he returns to work with the Orchestre National de France, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Japan and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He is Artist-in-Residence with the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, and tours with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, developing a relationship that began in 2013.
