The concert will feature favorite choruses from beloved operas, including the “Brindisi” from Verdi’s La Traviata, the “Humming Chorus” from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, the “Easter Hymn” from Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana and the “Prayer” from Rossini’s Mosè in Egitto.

 

                                                                       

 

(Sarasota, FL) Sarasota’s Gloria Musicae Singers celebrates the artistry of opera with “A Night at the Opera,” March 16, 7 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 104 S Pineapple Ave, Sarasota. Tickets are $35 for general admission or $33.50 if purchased online at GloriaMusicae.org. Student tickets are $15 at the door on day of concert. The concert, under the direction of Dr. Joseph Holt, Gloria Musicae’s artistic director, will feature favorite choruses from beloved operas, including the “Brindisi” from Verdi’s La Traviata, the “Humming Chorus” from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, the “Easter Hymn” from Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana and the “Prayer”from Rossini’s Mosè in Egitto. These choruses and vocal duets will be performed by guest tenor soloist Adam Bielamowicz and Gloria Musicae soloists, Amy Connours, Esther Dickmann, Johanna Fincher, Samus Haddad, Alicia Howington, James Hyde, Joy Leitner, Robyn Rocklein and Joseph Ryan.

 

“”The human voice is the backbone of opera,” says Holt. “Through soaring voices, audience members will experience the intense drama of human passion, vanity, love, sadness and folly. And, in honor of the Sarasota Opera’s dedication to the music of Verdi, this 35th anniversary concert will feature many of his favorite choruses.”

The Gloria Musicae Singers is a professional vocal ensemble that celebrates choral music through innovative performances. The critically acclaimed group, under the artistic direction of Dr. Joseph Holt, performs a repertoire spanning four centuries, and includes orchestral works, intimate madrigals, church motets, folk songs, close-harmony jazz, and Broadway show music.
