THE PLAYERS THEATRE PRESENTS “CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG”
Sarasota, FL — From October 28th to November 15th, The Players Theatre will be presenting most fantasmagorical musical in the history of everything, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” as part of their 86th Broadway Season. Directed and choreographed by Berry Ayers, this musical is based on the much-beloved 1968 film version of the same name which was, in turn, based on the popular children’s book by Ian Fleming. Music and Lyrics were written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, the same writers that made Mary Poppins so chim-chim-cheree! An out-of-this-world musical adventure, the cast is lead by AJ Forsyth who plays the zany English inventor Caractacus Potts. Truly Scumptious, with whom Potts falls in love, is played by Kaitlynn Barrett. Joining the adventure are Pott’s two children, Jeremy and Jemima, played by Ryan Modjeski and Belle Babcock. Together, they embark on a fantastical tour in their magical flying car. The “flying” car will be the star of the show, having been lovingly and painstakingly built by John Reynolds.
Jeffery Kin, Artistic Director, remarks, “Nothing could excite this ‘kid at heart’, more than bringing an incredible musical like “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” to our stage! The movie always enthralled me as a kid…and I grew up singing the amazing songs. We are proud to bring this story to the stage with our teams of creative folks and cherished volunteers. It will surely be 2 hours of fun and fantasy for the whole family to enjoy!”
Regular tickets are $25 with Premium seating (Rows A-E) at $30. Full time students under 24 with valid ID are $12. However, on select nights, there is a special “Family 4 Pack” – 4 seats for $60 ($15 each). These select nights are: Friday, Nov. 6th at 7:30pm; Saturday, Nov. 7th at 2pm; and Friday, Nov. 13, 7:30pm.
Story: Jeremy and Jemima meet Truly Scrumptious while admiring an old race car that is for sale for 30 shillings. The two bring Truly home to meet their Father, Caractacus Potts, who has invented Toot Sweets—a whistle candy, which he attempts to sell in order to buy the old car. His plan fails, but he does sell another one of his inventions and Potts purchases the car. He works his magic on the old race car, but two Vulgarians want the special car and lure the four to Vulgaria, where their Baron is holding the Pott’s Grandfather captive. Upon arrival in Vulgaria, the Potts children are captured and it is up to Caractacus and Truly to save the children and their Grandfather.
