Out of Bounds Match Up begins
in Bowne’s Lab June 7

(Sarasota, FL) FST Improv returns for another Summer season which kicks off on Saturday, June 7 at 7:30pm in Bowne’s Lab Theatre. The Summer Improv shows will run through August 23. Tickets are $15 per person and may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person, by phone at (941) 366-9000, or online at www.FloridaStudioTheatre.org.

Every Saturday night, two teams of professional improvisers compete for your laughs with audience judges selected at the start of the show. Choosing random games from a bucket, the actors make up songs, scenes, and characters right in front of your eyes using only your suggestions and their wits.

Managing Director and FST Improv MC, Rebecca Hopkins describes this summer show stating, “What makes the Out of Bounds format so funny is the constant audience interaction. Every few minutes there is a new opportunity for the audience to participate by giving us a suggestion. With Out of Bounds Match Up we take that energy to the next level. The performers have the added incentive of trying to win over the audience to their side. One of the truly wonderful things about Improv is the fact that it is based on collaboration and supporting your fellow actors. I mean the basic tenant is ‘Yes, And.’ At the same time it’s comedy, and comedy is all about who can get the biggest laugh. This show embraces that juxtaposition and creates collaborative competition. The performers love mixing it up and the winner is the audience.”

The FST Improv cast includes: Rebecca Hopkins, Christine Alexander, Tim Beasley, Chris Friday, Patrick A. Jackson, Darryl Knapp, Emily Levin, Angel M. Parker, Adam Ratner, Steve Turrisi, and Jim Prosser on the piano. Each week, a select group of cast members will take the stage to create a show never to be performed again, so don’t miss out!

Returning Improv cast member, Christine Alexander, spoke about the upcoming summer season stating,”I love playing for our summer crowd. They are mostly our local residents back for some laughs now that the snowbirds are gone. They are my favorite kind of laughers – loud. It’s exciting for me to hear an audience member say, ‘I remember way back when, when you played a giraffe – it was hilarious!’ and more times than not, I know exactly which scene they are talking about. Now that we are in the new Bowne’s Lab, I’m thrilled and refreshed to see Sarasota’s audience supports Improv year round.”

Come out to Bowne’s Lab and watch this zany bunch of fools compete for the loudest laughs.

Out of Bounds Match Upperformances will begin June 7, 2013 and run through August 23, 2013 in FST’s Bowne’s Lab Theatre. About Florida Studio Theatre

Known as Sarasota’s contemporary theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company eventually settled down into a permanent home, acquiring the former Woman’s Club building – now renamed the Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Goldstein Cabaret, the Gompertz Theatre the John C. Court Cabaret, and the Bowne’s Lab Theatre.

Even with great growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. Under Richard Hopkins, Artistic Director and CEO, FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
