Enchanting Classics ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘Swan Lake,’ Live From the Bolshoi Ballet, Dance Into Select Cinemas Across the U.S.

WHAT: Two of ballet’s most beloved fairytale classics are coming to cinemas, each with one-time-only showings, “The Sleeping Beauty” on Sunday, January 22 at 12:55 p.m. ET and PT / 11:55 a.m. CT / 10:55 a.m. MT, and “Swan Lake” on Sunday, February 5 at 12:55 p.m. (all local times) – all performed by and captured live from the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, Russia.

“The Sleeping Beauty,” stars the Bolshoi’s youngest prima ballerina and rising star Olga Smirnova and the “supremely elegant” (The Guardian) principal dancer Semyon Chudin, in the Bolshoi’s 2017 production of the romantic fairytale. “The Sleeping Beauty,” originally staged in 1890 by Marius Petipa with a new version by Yuri Grigorovich, will delight cinema audiences of all ages.

Born at the Bolshoi in 1877, “Swan Lake” brings a ballet of ultimate beauty to the stage. In the dual role of white swan, Odette, and her rival black swan, Odile, prima ballerina Svetlana Zakharova exudes both vulnerability and cunning through superb technical mastery, alongside the powerful and emotional Siegfried, Denis Rodkin.

Both set to timeless scores by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and including breathtaking scenes with the Bolshoi’s corps de ballet, “The Sleeping Beauty” and “Swan Lake” showcase classical ballet at its finest.
