Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s New York City Center engagement is one of the Company’s “most exciting seasons yet” (Metro), and the thrill continues as the holidays approach. The Company’s inspiring Christmas Eve performance will begin at 7:30pm and features Ronald K. Brown’s spellbinding Grace, Robert Battle’s stunning world premiere Awakening, and Alvin Ailey’s must-see masterpiece Revelations – “the gift that somehow keeps on giving” (The New York Times).
The holiday joy continues as Ailey rings in 2016 with a very special Judith Jamison 50th Anniversary New Year’s Eve Celebration, saluting the Artistic Director Emerita and Ailey’s muse on 50 years with the Company. The evening will begin at 7:00pm and includes Ailey classics Blues Suite with live music, Cry performed by the illustrious Linda Celeste Sims, and the timeless Revelations. Jamison’s own A Case of You, an emotional and sensual duet set to Diana Krall’s song by the same title, will be performed by its original cast – celebrated Ailey dancer Hope Boykin and powerhouse former Ailey dancer Clifton Brown.
Clifton Brown will also astound audiences with special performances of David Parsons’ gravity-defying solo Caught on Wednesday, December 23rd and Sunday, January 3rd. Hailed as “a millennial virtuoso with limitless technical prowess,” (Los Angeles Times), Brown’s first return to the Ailey stage since the 2011 season is not to be missed. Audiences also have three more opportunities to see the “All New” programs featuring the season’s premieres (Dec 22, 26 eve, and Jan 2 eve).
After the New York City Center engagement concludes on January 3rd, Ailey will perform in 20 cities across North America beginning in February. For more information, visit www.alvinailey.org.
