58 cats removed from home in hoarding-type situation

Sarasota, Fla. – (January 27, 2015) – Charlotte County Animal Control removed 58 cats from a hoarding-type situation in a home in Charlotte County, including many that were sick or infected, on January 16, 2015. The felines were taken to the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, with 44 cats transferred to Cat Depot in Sarasota. After intake and testing, Cat Depot kept 13 of the worse cases, and the rest were distributed to other animal organizations: St. Francis Animal Rescue, Sarasota Humane, Honor Rescue, Sarasota Animal Services and Suncoast Humane.

“Most of the cats have upper-respiratory infection, conjunctivitis, or ear and skin infections,” said Lynn Rasys, Director of Communications, Cat Depot. “One had a bulging eye, and several others need possible eye removal. And, it appears that none of the cats had been spayed or neutered. The cats will be available for adoption in about one month after intense medical care and surgery.”

Cat Depot is in great need of donations to help with the unexpected medical costs and surgeries. Donations can be made at
