(Jacksonville, Fla. – August 26, 2014) Auditions for the Jacksonville Symphony Chorus will take place on Saturday, September 6 at Jacksonville University’s Marks Chapel. Audition times are by appointment. Call 904.354.5479 x221, weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to schedule an audition time.
Directed by Donald McCullough, the Jacksonville Symphony Chorus will perform with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra this season in Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Missa Solmenis and “Holiday Pops.”
The Jacksonville Symphony Chorus typically rehearses on Tuesdays from 7:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at Jacksonville University, with additional rehearsals closer to performance dates.
The audition consists of vocalizing (scales and arpeggios), basic rhythmic sight-reading, simple melodic sight-reading, singing a group of notes first played on the piano and singing the first stanza of “America” (“My Country, ‘Tis of Thee”). Singers who would like to prepare another musical selection must be aware that auditions are limited to seven minutes per person and only a portion of their prepared piece will be heard. Those who are unavailable on this date may call and leave their information so that another time might be arranged, if possible.
