Hon. Elihu M. Berle to Install Fredman and Other BHBA Officers;
Former LA County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky is Guest Speaker
Outstanding Service Awards also to be Presented at Installation Dinner
Howard S Fredman, partner of Fredman Lieberman Pearl LLP in Century City, is being installed as President of the Board of Governors of the Beverly Hills Bar Association (BHBA) at the organization’s annual Installation and Awards Dinner on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, 5:30 P.M., at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles. The Honorable Elihu M. Berle, Judge of the Civil Departments of the Superior Court of California for L.A. County, is administering the oath of office to Fredman and his board as well as the officers of the BHBA Barristers, the newer lawyers’ section of the Bar Association, and the Beverly Hills Bar Foundation, the charitable affiliate of the BHBA. In addition, several BHBA awards are being presented to bar members for their outstanding service. The guest speaker is Zev Yaroslavsky, who served as a member of the L.A. County Board of Supervisors from District 3 (San Fernando Valley, Westside, and coastal areas between Venice and the Ventura County line) from 1994 to 2014.
Fredman is a trial attorney with more than four decades of experience arguing complex business cases, including Internet and antitrust matters, in state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout California. His areas of expertise also include the defense and prosecution of business contract and tort litigation, and cases related to banking, trademarks, trade secrets, defamation, unfair competition, and Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPP). A graduate of Princeton University, Fredman received his law degree cum laude from Columbia University where he distinguished himself for oral and written advocacy. Recently, he has been active as a mediator, and, in 2002, was honored by the federal district court in Los Angeles for his service as an Attorney Settlement Officer. Fredman has lectured to the Beverly Hills Bar Association, the Southern California Complex Litigation Inn of Court, the LACBA, the California Continuing Education of the Bar, and the Practicing Law Institute on product liability, depositions, negotiation, anti-trust, intellectual property litigation and SLAPP cases. Fredman is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. Previously, he was Counsel to Atlantic Richfield Company.
In addition to Fredman, other Board of Governors officers being sworn in by Judge Berle are President-Elect Howard S. Fisher, of the Law Offices of Howard S. Kaplan, of Kaplan Marino, P.C., in Beverly Hills; Second Vice-President LaVonne Lawson, of the Law Offices of LaVonne Lawson in Los Angeles; Secretary/Treasurer Michael R. Sohigian, of Michael Sohigian Law Offices in Los Angeles; and Immediate Past President Linda Spiegel, of the Law Offices of Linda Spiegel in Beverly Hills.
The BHBA Barristers cabinet members to be installed are President William S. Wenzel, of The Law Offices of William S. Wenzel APC in Los Angeles; President Elect Yan Goldshteyn, of Maven Law Firm in West Hollywood; Secretary Nadira Imam, of the Beverly Hills law firm Lawrence H Jacobson, APC; Treasurer Elizabeth Hall Peterson, of Trope and Trope LLP in Los Angeles; and Immediate Past President Doron Eghbali, of Law Advocate Group in Beverly Hills.
Beverly Hills Bar Foundation leaders to be invested include President Jim Jahant of Beverly Hills; Vice President Development Steve Young, of Freeman Freeman & Smiley LLP in Century City; Vice Chair Scholarships Daren Schlecter, of the Law Offices of Darren M. Outstanding service awards to be bestowed include the President’s Award to Ron Guttman; the Board of Governors’ Award to Avram Salkin; the Chief Executive Officer’s Award to Bruce Sires; the Barristers’ Lawrence J. Blake Award to Nadira Imam and LeRoy Williams; and the Louis B. Fox Award to Cynthia F. Pasternak.
Proceeds from the Installation and Awards Dinner support the educational and community outreach programs of the BHBA.
