Asolo Rep Receives $100,000 Grant from
Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation

(SARASOTA, October 29, 2018) — Asolo Repertory Theatre proudly announces that it is the recipient of a $100,000 grant from the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation.

The grant will provide key support for Asolo Rep’s 2018-19 season, which kicks off in November with The Music Man, directed by Tony® nominee Jeff Calhoun and starring Broadway song and dance man Noah Racey. The Barancik Foundation’s ongoing partnership ensures that Asolo Rep can continue to produce groundbreaking theatrical works, created and performed by the best artists in the country.
It will also support Asolo Rep’s Access to the Arts Programs: Main Stages and the annual fall Shakespeare tour. Main Stages provides area students with the opportunity to see a world-class production at Asolo Rep. Through the fall Shakespeare tour, live theatre is brought to the students at schools and community venues throughout Florida. Both Main Stages and tour performances are supplemented with teaching artist-guided workshops, study guides and other materials to enhance students’ experience before and after the performance.

The Barancik Foundation grant will also help to underwrite the cost of the annual FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training London Study Program. Each summer, the rising third-year Conservatory MFA students spend six weeks in London. When they return from this enriching training, they become the acting company for the annual Shakespeare tour and then join Asolo Rep’s main stage acting company for repertory season.

“We are deeply grateful for our ongoing partnership with the Barancik Foundation and their keen support of our institution,” said Linda DiGabriele, Asolo Rep Managing Director. “This grant not only deeply impacts the work on stage, but also provides opportunities for local students to experience poignant work at Asolo Rep and in their schools, ensuring that the future of the American theatre is bright. The Barancik Foundation’s unwavering support is invaluable to the overall success and growth of the theatre.”

Now in its 60th season, Asolo Repertory Theatre is recognized as one of the premier professional theatres in America and one of the largest in the Southeastern United States. One of the few select theatres in the nation that performs in true rotating repertory, Asolo Rep’s highly skilled acting company and extensive craftsmanship bring to life this unique performance method that gives audiences the opportunity to see multiple productions in the span of a few days. Asolo Rep presents up to 10 productions each season including contemporary and classic works and provocative musical theatre experiences. A theatre district in and of itself, Asolo Rep is committed to expanding its reach into the community, furthering its collaboration with the best theatre artists working in the industry today and cultivating new artists through its affiliation with the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training. Under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Michael Donald Edwards and Managing Director Linda DiGabriele, Asolo Rep’s ambitious theatrical offerings and ground-breaking education and community programming engage audiences and ensure its lasting legacy for future generations.

The Charles and Margery Barancik family has long believed in the power of philanthropy to shape our world and enrich the lives of all people. It was the expression of this belief that led them in 2014 to establish the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation—a private, family foundation located in Sarasota, Florida. The Barancik Foundation creates initiatives and awards grants in Sarasota and beyond in the areas of education, humanitarian causes, arts and culture, the environment, and medical (research/resources).
