ALSO Youth: Staying Connected

We’re Still Connected
While we’re all staying home and staying apart in order to stay safe and healthy, we sure are grateful for technology! Our regular Zoom calls bring a safe space online for youth to share how they’re coping, get and give support, and chat with friends. Netflix Party makes it so we can watch movies together. Online group games keep us entertained and engaged.
In the last two weeks, we visited two local GSA (gender & sexuality alliance) clubs from two different schools over Zoom. We shared what programs ALSO Youth is providing online, resources for youth who are struggling or in crisis, and we also started brainstorming what their GSA clubs could look like in the fall semester.
It’s definitely not the same as spending time in our center, gathering for our off-site meet-ups in Venice and North Port, or visiting GSA clubs in person. But the fact that we can still connect, still talk to and see each other, and still comfort and inspire others during these difficult times, is something we are thankful for each day.
Ears Buds for Youth Who Need Them
YOUTH: Do you need a little more privacy for schoolwork, phone calls, ALSO programs, listening to music, etc? We have brand new ear buds for any youth who need them! Send us a message or call the center to arrange pick-up. Thank you to the local parent who donated these!
Celebrating Students & Class of 2020 Graduates
To say that this school year will be a memorable one is an understatement, especially for the graduating class of 2020. While we would normally host an end of the school year celebration at the center,
COVID-19 has put a halt to
in-person gatherings. However, we are still going to applaud the hard work of ALL students, especially the graduating seniors, at our youth party over Zoom on Friday, May 29th! We’ll have special guests, wholesome moments, and gift card giveaways! YOUTH: don’t miss this event!
Zoom Schedule Update!

Based off of feedback collected through our recent survey, we have updated our weekly virtual programs schedule. We will now be meeting on Zoom every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Times and age groups are the same. There will still be special events that will occasionally fall on other days, so stay tuned to our social media pages. We are also in the process of finalizing our NEW Trans & Gender Expansive Peer Support Group, which will start over Zoom by the end of this month!
