ALEJANDRO FERNÁNDEZ ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF “ESO Y MÁS” HONORING JOAN SEBASTIÁN’S BIRTHDAY BY RAISING MONEY FOR MUSICIANS AFFECTED BY CORONAVIRUS
Alejandro Fernández and Universal Music Latin Entertainment will Donate Net Profits from the Song to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund in the United States and the MúsicaMéxico COVID-19 initiative in Mexico
One of the most prolific artists of his generation, Alejandro Fernández, honors Mexico’s multiple Grammy winner Joan Sebastián, with his touching new rendition of one of the Sebastián’s most beloved songs, ESO Y MÁS.
“This song is an anthem for the moment in which we’re living – Alone at home, isolated, separated from one another; while at the same time connected through the ever-pervasive love that resides in us all. I hope this song will be a bridge to people’s hearts during this difficult time,” remarked Fernández.
And as a way to celebrate the life of one of México’s most emblematic artists, while also collaborating with musicians who have been affected by COVID-19, net profits from this song will be donated by Alejandro Fernandez and Universal Music Latin Entertainment to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund in the US and MúsicaMéxico COVID-19 in Mexico. Alejandro is the first artist to support this recent initiative, which is backed by The University of Guadalajara – Cultura UDG, the International Music Fair for Professionals (FIMPRO), the Mexican Association of Producers of Phonograms and Videograms (AMPROFON), Relatable and Cassette, which seek opportunities in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), for the professional development of musicians and industry folk alike.
This fundraising effort is the latest by Fernández to use his platform as a vehicle to inform during the Coronavirus crisis. Alejandro was one of the first artists to support the call to flatten the curve by staying at home. Through his early collaboration with noted television medical expert Dr. Juan Rivera, Fernandez used his vast social media presence to post instructive videos to prevent the virus, gather questions from his fans to be answered by Dr. Juan on Univision’s Despierta America y Televisa’s Hoy, and support the hashtags #aplanalacurva (#flattenthecurve) and #quedateencasa (#stayathome). These efforts shared vital information with millions of his fans around the world and brought necessary attention to the importance of social distancing.
ESO Y MÁS will be part of the deluxe version of “Hecho en México,” Fernández’s 100% mariachi album which debuted as #1 Latin Album and #1 Regional Mexican Album on Billboard’s charts in the United States and Puerto Rico as well as #1 Best-seller in Mexico.
Recorded live at Fernández’s concert in his native Guadalajara earlier this year, the video captures the raw emotion of the sold-out crowd singing in unison with Alejandro as he delivers a heart-wrenching performance of one of acclaimed singer-songwriter Sebastian’s most iconic songs.
With the release of this tribute song, Alejandro Fernández once again pays homage to his roots, proclaiming himself as one of the maximum exponents of regional music of these times as well as one of the biggest ambassadors of Mexican music around the world.
